The Big Word Project

Interactions now points to Nordkapp.fi, a design company based in Finland. Nordkapp ‘create contemporary brand interactions and innovations, seizing on those special moments that happen in the constant dialogue between people, brands and technology.’ Quite a mouthful you might say but these guys do everything from interaction, graphic and web design to interior design and branding.

We particularly like the navigation on their site. It’s one long page and you jump to the different anchored sections, but it’s less of a jump and more of a smooth, romantic boat ride. Their design is really plain, just black and white, but it’s really effective. You can tell they are a high class company, even before you get to their showcase. Some impressive work in there, check it out!

What an..er…awesome word! Chris Gregori chose to redefine the word Awesomeness with his portfolio site cgregori.com. No longer does the word mean the quality of being awesome, but it now points to a very talented illustrator’s body of work.

Chris, a freelance illustrator and musician has made a lot of work for some pretty big names, including one of Paddy’s favourite bands, Arcade Fire. Some of his postcard designs are great, well worth a look and you can purchase them at his Etsy store. You can also follow his blog to find out about his latest work and what he’s up to.

It’s really hard to work ‘awesomeness‘ into a sentence…er…Chris’s website is the epitome of awesomeness. How about that?

Here’s another great site submitted to The Big Word Project.  The new definition of the word ‘Plain‘, is Seanaes.com, the portfolio site for Sean Salmon.  Sean describes himself as an “Interaction Designer, Creative Technologist, and recovering Architect” and his work is fantastic!

His projects are fascinating and range from social experiments to architectural designs.  We especially like the Little Brother, Dollar,  and Turno projects.  We got a giggle out of the Dirty Colours project as well because we’re geeky, immature web designers.

As we are all about the simplistic design here at The Big Word Project, Seanaes.com is a shining testament to simple design.  His navigation system on his homepage is really unique and his lack of unneccesary clutter allows his impressive work to speak for itself.  It is quite appropriate that his site is the new definition of the word ‘Plain‘.  Have a look through his projects and be inspired!

The guys behind OutsideSource.com redefined the word ‘Outside‘ to point to their really sweet site. Paddy has fallen in love with their little pully tab thingy. It’s so much fun to pull it out and watch it spring back. Go on, have a go!

Apart from the hours of fun supplied by the springy tab, the site is also really well laid out and you can find information on their projects and services really quickly. They also have a great video showcasing what they do and proclaiming their matra ‘Go Outside’. In fact Paddy is going to take their advice and go to the park right now!

We stumbled upon this site through the word ‘Zephyr‘. KC Dyer has come up with a neat way of having fun with her words. She has made cool little sentences on her blog using the words she has purchased.

We search through all the redefined words at The Big Word Project to see what interesting sites are out there and the new definition of the word caught our eye. It’s a really interesting project called 10,000 People by Arlan, where she is raising money to launch a magazine, and she is doing it by meeting 10,000 people in person!

What a great idea! It’s a really interesting social experiment, imagine the range of people she is going to meet with this experiment! Arlan is accepting donations at tenthousandpeople.com and you can also get really nice ‘World Citizen‘ Tshirts there. I just bought one, looking forward to it coming!
