The Big Word Project is redefining words. Search for your word and link it to your website. Your website is then the new definition. Simple. Want to know more?

Red Crates

The red crate.
You’ll probably pass a couple today without noticing.
But once you notice them, they’re everywhere!Red crates are a practical, functional part of our lifes.
They are being used daily, as milk crates — the high ones, delivering milk for our latte’s — or as ‘bread pans’ — the flat ones, delivering bread for our toast — but, in fact they can contain anything.

An extract from, the new definition of ‘crate‘, which is a site dedicated to the discovery of Red Crates everywhere. This simple idea, inspired by Findo’s Red Crates Project, really intrigued us and we are now on the search for red crates around Belfast. We’ll post any pics we get on this blog post.

University of Ulster Degree Show

The Big Word Project Display

This week we have been exhibiting our work over the past semester in our University. It’s been great being able to show off our work in a gallery setting as our stuff is usually all online and a lot of people in the art community do not get to see it.

We created a wall piece [above] resembling the layout of The Big Word Project site and also had a computer showing the website 24/7. People have actually been coming up and buying words here, which was cool! We made some little concertinas [below] to give out to people, explaining a bit about each of us and the project.

Nursery Rhymes

There is a whole host of other fascinating work on display with ours including Jeannie Johnston’s really cool work on the dark side of nursery rhymes.

Jenna Roddy [redefinition of nerd] is also displaying her visualisation work, ‘fly‘, an image showing the flight destinations from Dublin Airport.

Disability Heroes

Kyle Boyd’s Disability Heroes [redefinition of superheroes] has also been a big hit at the degree show with his larger than life size cut out of Dakota Sharpe. Check out his fantastic movie trailer which has been on display at the gallery space all week.

Thanks to the University of Ulster and our lecturers for all their support.

We are speaking.

We are speaking at the Silicon Ireland conference in Dublin on the 26th June!

This event will have a range of speakers offering advice to start-ups seeking seed or “Angel” funding and how to get it. There will also be the chance for 4 businesses to pitch their ideas to the assembled delegates.

There will be ample time to network with assembled delegates, experts and companies.

We are really looking forward to telling the story of The Big Word Project and we’re going to have to make it extra interesting as we’re on for 45minutes! We are speaking with Joe Malloy [], Sean McGrath [Tech Guru], Adam Feinsilver [Tech Lawyer], C Malone [Shrubfunds], Niall Harbison/Sean Fee []

The end of boring gift ideas has arrived…

So it’s your dad’s birthday, or better yet it’s Father’s Day (as it’s upon us). You don’t want to get him the usual slippers or socks, so what other presents could you go for?

Fresh Trend

Fresh Trend have redefined the word presents with their website/blog about unusual gift ideas. “We’ve got the latest cool stuff in gadgets, fashion, entertainment, design and a bunch of other unique gift ideas.”

Fifty Thousand Shirts

We came across a fantastic project recently called ‘Fifty Thousand Shirts‘.

On Monday, May 19, one week after the quake, reports surfaced estimating that 50,000 lives would be lost in this tragedy—our vision is hope. One by one, fifty thousand hand drawn tally marks create the “x” on your shirt, each one representing a life that has passed, and connecting it with a life that has committed to help rebuild. Your shirt is a symbol how one person, multiplied 50,000 times, can do something amazing.

Each shirt will be individually numbered and all involved will have their names recorded on the Wall. You can be a part of something important. You can be hope.

Fifty Thousand Shirts

The project is a great idea and for such a great cause! The site is really simply designed, something we really love here at The Big Word Project. We snapped up some shirts straight away, check it out below. We would encourage everyone to check out the site and sign up to this great cause!
